Brunel Music alumnus, composer, improviser and Arts & Humanities staff member, Phil Maguire collaborates with flutist sans égale, Anne La Berge, in a new duo being kicked off next month with a concert in Eindhoven.
Phil Maguire is a composer, improviser and sound artist from the UK. Working with computers, synthesisers, tape equipment, Maguire produces music and sound works that explores emptiness and malfunction, of self and of machine.
Anne La Berge’s passion for the extremes in both composed and improvised music has led her to storytelling and sound art as her sources of musical inspiration. Her music gathers the elements on which her reputation is based: ferocious virtuosity, microtonal textures and melodies, and her unique array of extended flute techniques, all combined with interactive electronic processing and text.
Phil Maguire: analog synthesizers and Max patches – Anne La Berge: flutes and electronics. When they are together, they play detailed drones that color the perception of time and place.
