International Guitar Research Conference, March 2016
In March 2014, the University of Surrey launched the International Guitar Research Centre (IGRC). The research centre aims to establish an international hub for guitar-centered research in all styles of music.
The next large-scale event at the IGRC is a conference that takes place from 18th to 23rd March 2016. Some of the most distinguished and highly regarded scholars and musicians from around the world will gather for this major international conference featuring six public concerts, four keynote lectures, and over 50 lecture-recitals and academic papers.
Brunel Music alumni Joel Bell and Richard Perks will be presenting recent research work: respectively Improvisational Techniques for Fretted and Fretless Instruments and Fretless Architecture: An Exploration of the Fretless Electric Guitar. Carl Faia and Milton Mermikides will be presenting a joint project, The Extended Guitar – integration of the guitar with Max/MSP in pedagogy, performance and composition.
