Original Voices This Summer at Club Inégales

The warm months will bring artists from around the world to Club Inégales. The club’s Artistic Director, Peter Weigold, presents the program here:

“We open with the extraordinary storytelling poet Zena Edwards (Thur 18 June) accompanying herself on the African mbira. A week later we welcome internationally renowned pi’pa and guqinvirtuoso Cheng Yu (Thur 25 June) together with Wang Xiao (erhu) and Mengmeng Wu (guzheng) plus a special appearance distinguished Chinese writer and advocate Xinran, author of the best selling China Witness – Voices From a Silent Generation.

Inimitable English composer Howard Skempton (Thur 9 July) will bring his accordion, sing and we will rework both his Lament and the delightful song Trapeze. This will be followed by the joyous collaboration of outstanding kora player Sura Susso and brilliant violinist Max Baillie (Thur 16 July). Anyone whose seen these two live will know what a treat we’re in for. Finally we celebrate the important influence of Southern Indian music on contemporary British culture with singer Ranjana Ghatak (Thur 23 July). whose seen these two live will know what a treat we’re in for.
