Bob Gilmore of Trio Scordatura in conversation with himself

BG  What does “scordatura” mean?

BG  Eh, well, I believe it means “detuning” in Italian, although I keep hoping some kindly native speaker might suggest a more positive-sounding translation to me some day. In music, scordatura means tuning your open strings to different notes than normal, so in our case that applies both literally (in the case of the viola) and metaphorically (in the case of the keyboard and voice).

BG  Does that mean you play out of tune?
