Andrew Hall   Groove and Free Improvisation: ‘Together in Different Places’ Does ‘groove’ have a place in Free Improvisation, and if so how can an understanding of it aid us as performers, composers and music leaders?  Taking Charles Keil’s theory of ‘Participatory Discrepancies’ as a starting point, I will present my own conception of groove in improvised music, and give examples of how it has influenced my recent work.
